NYPD Running Club Memorial Scholarship Exam

Each year at the NYPD Memorial 5K Run, this year scheduled for May 17, 2009, we will announce college scholarship awards to children, grand children, great grand children, of members of the NYPD who have died in the line of duty.

This year we will be awarding one four year scholarship of $3,500 per year (total $14,000), and multiple one time awards yet to be determined based on available funds.

The NYPD Running Club invites all high school seniors who are children, grand children, great grand children of any NYPD Member of the Service who has died in the line of duty to participate in an examination, being held on March 25, 2009. The deceased member of the service could have been uniformed, civilian, or an Auxiliary Officer. Students of all abilities are encouraged to participate since the applicant pool will be limited. Selection will be based on examination scores and other criteria determined by the Officers of the NYPD Running Club.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, from 6-9pm, the Police Reserve Association will hold its Annual College Scholarship Examination at the Police Academy, 235 East 20th Street New York, NY 10003. Applicants for the NYPD Memorial Scholarships will take that examination, but will not be competing against the Police Reserve Association applicants. The exam is open to college bound high school seniors, who will be attending a two or four-year College and be matriculated during the period from September 1, 2009 until August 31, 2010. Proof of acceptance to the school must be provided before awards can be claimed. All winners will be notified in May 2009, and the awards presentations will take place at the 8th Annual NYPD Memorial 5K Run.

Those wishing to apply to take the examination should fill out an application which can be found by visiting the NYPD Memorial Run web site by clicking on the register button on right. All applications must be returned it to the NYPD Running Club by March 2, 2009.
